- note: 절대격은 동사의 핵심 논항 중 무표적인 격을 지칭한다. cf) 절대분사(absolute participle)를 PTCP.ABS로 주석하는 데에도 이용한다.

명사의 기본형(citation form)으로 사용되며 일반적으로 주격(nominative)와 다르다.
소위 능격-절대격 언어의 경우 절대격은 자동사의 주어와 타동사의 목적어를 표지하는 데에 사용된다.
능격은 타동사의 주어를 표지하는 데에 사용된다.

능격-절대격 언어의 하나인 조지아어의 예를 보면 다음과 같다.
