아굴어의 자음은 비교적 복잡한 구조를 지닌다.

• 위 표의 조음방법과 위치의 구분은 Alekseev(2001:400)를 따른다. Alekseev는 с, з를 dental fricative로 분류되어 있으나 통상 다루는대로 각각 s, z (alveolar fricative)로, н (dental nasal)은 n (alveolar nasal)로 IPA 대응 표기하였다
• alveolar affricate와 alveolar fricative로 구분된 자음들도 관행을 따라 post-alveolar affricate, post-alveolar fricative에 해당하는 IPA로 대응 표기하였다
